TV Ratings: 'Downton Abbey,' 'Blacklist,' 'Enlisted' and 'Helix' Score in Latest DVR Boosts
UPDATED: The PBS drama's recent premiere surges past 15 million viewers, while the NBC freshman sees its biggest time-shifting to date now that it's airing separately from "The Voice."
The all-important DVR audience has given a noticeable lift to a few January series -- and NBC's The Blacklist continues to reap some of time-shifting's biggest gains.
Taking an obligatory live-plus-same-day dip in its first episodes without The Voice as a lead-in, The Blacklist's Jan. 20 episode notched an all-time U.S. TV record for most viewers gained in live-plus-3 day returns. The show jumped 5.43 million viewers, bringing it to a total 14.262 million viewers. (Its prior record came with the Nov. 4 episode adding 5.426 million.)
Among the targeted adults 18-49, The Blacklist set a personal best with a 70 percent jump after three days of viewing to a 3.9 rating among adults 18-49. Season-to-date, The Blacklist is DVR's biggest grower in total viewers -- though it is still eclipsed by The Big Bang Theory in the targeted demo.
One returning series setting records is Downton Abbey. PBS released the live-plus-7 returns for its two-hour Jan. 5 season premiere, and time-shifting solidifies the episode as the biggest drama showing in network history. Downton Abbey climbed to 15.5 million viewers, and that's before online views are taken into account. Downton Abbey has always been a big performer with Masterpiece Classics streaming.
Elsewhere not on broadcast, Syfy original Helix jumped to networks bests in its first round of live-plus-7 ratings. The series jumped 82 percent among adults 18-49 and 64 percent in total viewers for respective grosses of 1.34 million and 3.0 million viewers. Helix previously set a new Syfy bar in live-plus-3.
Last but not least, the first 7-day ratings also are in for Enlisted. And though the Friday Fox comedy's modest ratings don't approach the aforementioned series, it does show strong signs of life.
The Enlisted premiere jumped 114 percent among adults 18-49, rising to a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. Yes, the number is still small, but by more than doubling its live showing, Enlisted ranks as the biggest percentage grower of 2014 thus far.
This past Friday saw Fox shift Enlisted to 9 p.m., lifting its same-day ratings 67 percent in the process.
