TV Ratings: 'Empire' Falls to Low on Thanksgiving Eve
In a move that should surprise few, Thanksgiving Eve brought ratings drops for the handful of series that aired original episodes — particularly Empire, which fell to a same-day series low.
The Fox drama tumbled a steep 30 percent to a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49. That's by far a night-of low for the top-rated broadcast series, which airs its fall finale next week. It's a dramatic drop that the show hasn't taken yet, but not altogether unique given TV viewers' tendency leave the tube before the holiday weekend (biggest bar night of the year!). And it is thus far unflappable in its DVR average, a fact that Fox is keen to push.
Empire, averaging 9.1 million viewers, was still easily the biggest thing on TV Wednesday night. Fox neighbor Rosewood (1.2 adults) dropped 18 percent at 8 o'clock.
CBS was the only other network to really push originals. Survivor, averaging a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49, tumbled but not too much — around 12 percent in the key demo. A new Code Black (1.4 adults) was actually improved. The drama rose two-tenths of a point facing zero original competition at 10 o'clock.
