American Idol ranked No. 3 on Thursday night, trailing CBS' The Big Bang Theory and a rising Life in Pieces, but two full hours of it was enough to win the night among adults 18-49 for Fox. The show averaged a steady 2.3 rating in the key demo.

As for Big Bang, it returned with a steady 3.7 rating with adults 18-49 and 15.2 million viewers. That lead-in helped catapult neighbor Life in Pieces to its highest ratings since its Monday launch in September — a 2.3 rating in the key demo. Mom (1.8 adults), Angel From Hell (1.4 adults) and Elementary (1.1 adults) were unmoved.

NBC saw the second outing of You, Me and the Apocalypse slip to a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 before a steady episode of The Blacklist (1.5 adults). Shades of Blue, which continues to see substantial growth from time-shifting, was off in its same-day showing by two-tenths of a point — averaging a 1.1 rating in the key demo.

Madoff concluded its two-night run on ABC down to a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49. It was actually outperformed by a subsequent news special, Madoff: After the Fall, which averaged a 1.2 rating for ABC.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow dropped to a 0.9 rating with adults 18-49 on The CW, off two-tenths of a point in its third outing, prior to a steady episode of The 100 (0.6 adults) on CBS.
