TV Ratings: 'MasterChef Junior' Rises in Tuesday Move, Election Preemptions Abound

Fast National returns are especially tentative given all of the breaking news

Take Tuesday's Fast National ratings with a grain of salt. With news coverage of the midterm election preempting much original programming, early returns are preliminary.

Still, things look good for Fox. With Utopia now a fleeting memory, MasterChef Junior staged its Tuesday move to a series high. The competition, which aired on Friday last year, was up two-tenths of a point in the key demo for a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. It also netted 5 million viewers.

The new lead-in saw New Girl (1.6 adults) and The Mindy Project (1.3 adults) similarly lifted, rising a respective four- and two-tenths of a point from their prior originals.

CBS and The CW all opted for repeats in the face of the election, while NBC did have original outings of Marry Me (1.3 adults) and About a Boy (1.1 adults) at 9 p.m. ABC had a Marvel special (1.2 adults) after back-to-back episodes of Selfie averaged a respective 1.0 and 0.9 rating with adults under 50.

The 10 p.m. face-off for news coverage among ABC, CBS and NBC — again, tentative at this point — gives a narrow demo advantage to NBC and CBS boasting the most viewers.
