TV Ratings: 'Smash,' 'Celebrity Wife Swap' Suffer Steep Drops
"American Idol" drops in a special Tuesday airing, but Fox still bests other broadcast nets as NBC's struggling sophomore drama falls another 22 percent.
A special Tuesday American Idol topped the night in adults 18-49, averaging a 3.4 rating in the key demo, according to Fast National returns. It was down half a point from last week's Wednesday showing and 33 percent from last year's comparable Tuesday outing. Averaging 11.5 million viewers, Fox placed second to CBS on the night.
CBS averaged a 2.6 adults rating and 15.2 million viewers Tuesday and just managed to top American Idol with NCIS in head-to-head competition during the 8 p.m. hour. The veteran procedural's 3.3 adults rating was down a tenth of a point from last week. NCIS: LA (2.8 adults) also was off a tenth of a point, while the second Tuesday sampling of Golden Boy (1.6 adults) was off two-tenths.

The Taste (1.2 adults) also was at a low, losing two-tenths of a point. Body of Proof (1.2 adults) remained consistent with last week and its premiere two weeks ago. ABC averaged a 1.3 adults rating and 4.6 million viewers.
NBC aired a "Best of" for Betty White's Off Their Rockers (1.1 adults), which was off two tenths from last week's original in the slot. Go On (1.1 adults) was even with the previous original, while The New Normal (0.9 adults) dropped a tenth to tie a low. Smash, losing two-tenths of a point, hit a new series low of a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49. The network averaged a 0.9 adults rating for the night and 3 million viewers.
A steady Hart of Dixie (0.6 adults) led into a Beauty and the Beast encore on The CW. The network averaged a 0.4 adults rating and 1.1 million viewers.
Univision averaged a 1.8 rating with adults 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers.
