Pressing pause on several weeks of modest but continuing declines, an even Empire fetched a same-day score of a 3.7 rating among adults 18-49 on Wednesday night.

Also the night's most watched series, with 9.9 million viewers, Empire followed a steady episode of Rosewood (1.3 adults) on Fox.

Survivor was also even on Wednesday night, bringing an average 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 for CBS before an encore of Criminal Minds and a new Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (1.2 adults).

Modern Family aired a repeat on Fox, and while that had no effect on its lead-out — Black-ish pulled an even 1.5 adults rating — both The Middle and The Goldbergs (a clip show) started the night dipping to 1.6 ratings among adults 18-49. Nashville pulled a 0.9 rating in the key demo.

NBC brought only a new episode of Heartbeat to the table, averaging a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49. And, on The CW, Arrow (0.9 adults) and Supernatural (0.7 adults) held firm.
