The official NFL season came to a close on Sunday with NBC's final Sunday Night Football of 2014. Ahead of the playoffs next week, the decisive matchup between the Pittsburg Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals ended the season on a higher note for the network.

Fast National ratings, which will be adjusted once time zones are taken into account, have the game up 12 percent from last week — averaging a preliminary 5.8 rating among adults 18-49. (Last week's preliminary 5.2 ultimately rose to a 6.1 rating.)

Still, it's a far cry from the final Sunday Night Football from last season. That event, between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys, was a much bigger draw. Its preliminary 8.1 rating among adults 18-49 hit a 9.3 in final returns.

NBC wasn't the only network with football overrun last night. Fox benefited the most, with repeats of Sunday comedies all up thanks to a lead-in from a 6.1 rating among adults 18-49. CBS also had overrun, making its scores especially tentatives. Ratings for original episodes of 60 Minutes, Undercover Boss, The Mentalist and CSI will arrive later on Monday.
