TV Ratings: 'Vampire Diaries,' 'Secret Circle' Stage Even Returns, 'Grey's Anatomy' Rises
Several Thursday dramas came back from hiatus to largely positive results, with ABC claiming top spot thanks to a particularly strong "Grey's."
ABC and The CW both returned with original broadcasts on Thursday. The CW matched its November ratings, while ABC climbed a few notches.
The Alphabet net averaged a 3.3 rating among adults 18-49 according to fast national ratings, bringing in 9.5 million viewers. An episode of Wipeout (2.8) led into the return of Grey's Anatomy, up from a 4.1 to a 4.6 in 18-49-ers. Private Practice matched its last original with a 2.8 rating in the key demo.
CBS, still airing repeats of its Thursday line-up, came in second with a 2.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 9.3 million viewers. A repeat of Big Bang Theory, unsurprisingly, topped all comedy encores of the night and was the highest rated broadcast during the 8:00 p.m. hour, bringing in a 3.5 in the key demo. Only Grey's outperformed it.
Fox and The CW tied for third in the demo. Back-to-back repeats of Bones brought in a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers.
On the CW, both The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle returned from nearly two-month hiatuses to familiar numbers. Both series matched their 18-49 rating since their last original broadcasts (Nov. 10), with The Vampire Diaries pulling a 1.4 and The Secret Circle holding onto a 0.8. The network averaged a 1.1 as well, with 2.6 million viewers.
NBC pulled up the rear, airing repeats of Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Whitney, another The Office and Up All Night. The net averaged a 0.8 in the targeted demo and greeting 2.3 million viewers.
