TV Upfronts: TNT, TBS Developing Projects From Joe Carnahan, Steve McPherson, 'Office' Alums
TNT will undergo a brand refresh with a new tagline as the drama-themed network courts younger viewers.
TNT will undergo a brand refresh starting May 19 in a bid to court younger viewers and even its male-female demographic with a slate of genre, action-adventure, sci-fi/fantasy and mystery-suspense dramas. Gone is the "We Know Drama" tagline in favor of "TNT Drama. Boom" in what the network says reflects powerful and emotional moments that resonate from its roster of returning series and three new series including Public Morals, Proof and The Librarians. (Watch trailers for all of TNT's new shows here.)
"Today, we are introducing an aggressive update of our drama brand -- our look, our tone and the content behind it," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies. " 'Boom' speaks to the experience we want to deliver to TNT viewers. It's about the thrill of the chase, or overcoming impossible odds and winning the day; it's about what keeps you on the edge of your seat, hands clenched, heart racing, waiting to see what happens next; it's about the moment when it all goes 'Boom!' Most importantly, 'Boom' makes a promise to our audience about the kind of emotional, intense, exciting, funny, shocking, sexy and thrilling drama they should expect from TNT."
On the development side, TNT is developing seven new dramas from writers and producers including Joe Carnahan (The Blacklist), Greg Berlanti, Steve McPherson and Donnie Wahlberg. The seven new dramas join drama pilot Agent X, which will be redeveloped after the network declined to pick up the Sharon Stone starrer to series last week. (A full list of the new dramas is below.)
Over at TBS, meanwhile, the comedy-themed sibling network is teaming with The Office's Ed Helms and John Krasinski for three new comedies as the cabler replenishes its inventory after ordering Tribeca, Your Family or Mine and Buzzy's to series. (Watch trailers for all of TBS' new shows here.)
