USA Renews 'Chrisley Knows Best' Reality Series for Second Season
After several attempts to launch an unscripted franchise, USA has found one in the family reality series Chrisley Knows Best, moving ahead with a season-two pickup.
In announcing the news, the NBCUniversal-owned cable network has upped the episode count for the sophomore season, ordering 12 episodes instead of eight. Chrisley Knows Best wraps up its first season April 22.
The renewal comes on the heels of a series high for the April 8 episode, which jumped double digits to 1.25 million viewers and 823,000 in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic. It is also USA's youngest original series, scripted included, with a 36.5 median age.
Chrisley Knows Best centers on a wealthy Atlanta family led by Todd Chrisley, and follows his "colorful clan," which includes his wife, five children and two grandchildren. USA formally announced the series back in December.
“We knew from the moment we met Todd there was no other character quite like him and whether or not you agree with his parenting style, he has certainly struck a chord with our viewers as their new guilty pleasure,” said Heather Olander, senior vp alternative programming for USA Network. “We’re excited to continue the laughs and be there for more genuine family moments with Todd and his family in season two.”
Chrisley Knows Best is produced by Maverick TV and All3Media America. Adam Greener, Jim Sayer, Eli Holzman and Stephen Lambert are executive producers. Annie Kate Pons is supervising producer. Stephanie Bloch Chambers was showrunner/executive producer for season one.
USA entered the unscripted game last spring with the nine-episode The Moment hosted by Kurt Warner, followed by competition series Summer Camp from the producers of Big Brother, but Chrisley Knows Best marks the first reality entry to get an additional pickup past the original order. Forthcoming unscripted series include It Takes a Choir and Partners in Crime.
