'Vampire Diaries' Preview: Elena Goes Into a State of Denial (Videos)
Following Thursday's shocking development, The CW has released a new scene and an extended promo teasing the aftermath.
The Vampire Diaries took it up a notch with last night's episode. Not only did a familiar face return for the cure, but another one of Mystic Falls' very own could have been an unlucky victim of Silas' awakening.

STORY: 'Vampire Diaries': Elena's Worst Nightmare Returns as Things Turn Deadly
In a new preview released by The CW on Friday from next week's episode, "Stand By Me," Bonnie (Kat Graham) and her "mentor" Shane (David Alpay) have a tense conversation about what they endured the day before. The closing seconds of last night's episode showed Silas snapping Jeremy's neck after draining him of his blood, before the young Gilbert's body falls in a lifeless heap. Will Jeremy, a member of The Five, really stay dead?
Shane seems to think so, and breaks the heart-wrenching news to Bonnie: "Jeremy's dead." If Bonnie had doubts before about Shane's belief that he could resurrect the dead with Silas, guess she can't afford to second-guess him now.
An extended promo was also released showing how hard Elena (Nina Dobrev) takes it when she grapples with the idea of losing another family member. "This town, this crazy world we live in? It's OK to have hope," Matt (Zach Roerig) reassures Elena.
As Elena is in denial over her brother's demise, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) observes: "I'm not enough ... not this time."
The Vampire Diaries airs at 8 p.m. Thursdays on The CW.
