Vanessa Redgrave to Guest Star on USA's 'Political Animals'
She will play a lesbian Supreme Court Justice on the Greg Berlanti summer series.
USA Network's Political Animals has landed an Oscar winner.
Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark's upcoming summer drama series has cast Vanessa Redgrave for a plum guest starring role, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Her character will turn heads: Redgrave will play Diane Nash, a lesbian Supreme Court Justice who is a friend of Secretary of State Elaine Barrish (Sigourney Weaver).
The six-episode series centers on Elaine, a divorced former first lady, who is struggling to keep her family together while simultaneously dealing with the crises of the State Department. She finds an unlikely ally in a famous D.C. journalist (Carla Gugino) who has spent her career tearing Elaine down.
The casting marks a return to television for Redgrave, who last appeared on the small screen in FX's Nip/Tuck and 2009 miniseries The Day of the Triffids.
Berlanti, Mark and Sarah Caplan (Brothers and Sisters, GCB) serve as EPs, with Melissa Kellner Berman as co-EP.
The project comes from Berlanti Productions and Laurence Mark Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television.
Redgrave, who won an Academy Award in 1978, is repped by CAA. Political Animals debuts July 15 at 10 p.m.
