Vanity Fair Confidential will live on.

Investigation Discovery on Wednesday announced that it has greenlighted a third season of the true-crime docuseries, where each episode chronicles a different dramatic saga ripped from the pages of the monthly magazine. The show, created by True Entertainment in partnership with Conde Nast Entertainment and ID, is expected to return with 12 more hourlong episodes in early 2017.

“Over the past few years, we’ve had the opportunity to showcase the very best of Vanity Fair’s quintessential investigative journalism — and we look forward to another season of captivating our audience with some of the nation’s most harrowing crimes and mysteries,” said ID group president Henry Schleiff, who described the series an “ID fan favorite.”

To the delight of Schleiff and his programming team,Vanity Fair Confidential arrived at the height of the true-crime genre’s popularity, thanks to such entries as Serial and The Jinx. The series — the first TV success to come from Conde Nast Entertainment’s production arm, run by one-time CW chief Dawn Ostroff — has already tackled the Robert Durst story as well as others centered on everything from salacious sex scandals to cold-blooded murder.

“We’ve hardly scratched the surface of Vanity Fair’s arsenal of gripping investigative features,” noted True Entertainment co-CEO Steven Weinstock, who also serves as an exec producer. “Throughout the past two seasons, we’ve spotlighted some of the most gripping stories ever printed, and we’re proud to continue bringing these powerful pieces to viewers through our collaboration with ID and Condé Nast.”
