'Walking Dead' Season 5 Key Art Teases Cannibal Story
Are the Terminus residents cannibals?
That's been one of the biggest lingering questions from the fourth-season finale of AMC's The Walking Dead — and judging from the season five key art tagline, "Hunt or Be Hunted," they very well may be.
The final episode of season four saw Gareth (Andrew J. West), the head of the so-called Termites, leading a shootout that took aim at Rick and company's feet before capturing the gang and reuniting everyone in a small railcar, where they may become food to feed those living in the "sanctuary for all."
Producers have been mum to confirm the cannibal story but teased that season five would feature the backstory on how the community at Terminus was created. Executive producer Robert Kirkman also said season five would be "pretty close" to the comics. And while there isn't a character named Gareth in the comics, there is a guy named Chris, who is the leader of the so-called group of Hunters who, hungry and out of options, turn to cannibalism in order to survive after stalking their victims — including Rick's group.
Rick's and Abraham's group cross paths with the Hunters in the 63rd issue of Kirkman's comic series, when they're making their way to Washington, D.C. Also notable: Rick mutters the line "They'll feel pretty stupid when they find out they're f---ing with the wrong people" in the following issue. The comics connection would seem to give weight to the theory that Gareth and Terminus may be a remixed version of the Hunters.
