'Weird Loners' Canceled at Fox

The rookie comedy will not live to see another season.

It's official: Fox's Weird Loners is joining this year's one-and-done class.

Poor Weird Loners never had a chance. Despite hailing from sister studio 20th Century Fox TV, the half-hour landed with a thud in the post-New Girl time slot and never improved its showing.

Originally ordered by former network president Kevin Reilly, the comedy never even cracked the 2 million viewer mark even with DVR and averaged just a 0.8 rating with adults 18-49.

That's the same score as the departed Mulaney, another freshman Fox comedy that just didn't float. In addition to the John Mulaney comedy, Weird Loners joins fellow canceled Fox rookies Red Band Society, Backstrom, Gracepoint and Hieroglyph, the latter of which was picked up straight to series and then was canceled before its premiere.

Fox on Monday also confirmed cancellations of veterans The Following and The Mindy Project, the latter of which is expected to land at Hulu for a two-season renewal.

On the bright side, Fox did have one homegrown breakout in The Last Man on Earth, which thrived on Sunday and nabbed an early sophomore renewal.

Keep up with all the renewals, cancellations and new series orders with THR's handy Scorecard.
