'Whitney's' Chris D'Elia to Star in NBC's Bill Lawrence Comedy
The actor-comedian will play a confident guy who decides to transform his “undateable” roommate, Justin, and Justin’s group of equally undateable friends.
Chris D’Elia has lined up his next act.
The actor-comedian is set to star in NBC's Undateable, a comedy pilot from Cougar Town co-creator Bill Lawrence. Based on the book Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won’t Be Dating or Having Sex by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle, the half-hour effort is being billed as a bromantic comedy about two very different guys who are bonded by their common inability to attract women.
D'Elia will play Danny, who is at once confident, attractive and impervious to outside opinions. In the pilot, he decides to transform his “undateable” roommate, Justin (Brent Morin), and Justin’s group of equally undateable friends. The gig is in second position to NBC's low-rated second-season comedy Whitney, in which he stars opposite Whitney Cummings. Still active on the comedy circuit, D'Elia is shooting a new stand up special for Comedy Central in April.
Undateable is set up at Doozer in association with Warner Bros. TV, where Lawrence has a long-term deal. The mulitcamera pilot will be written and executive produced by Due Date's Adam Sztykiel, with Lawrence and his Doozer president Jeff Ingold serving as executive producers. Scott Ellis is on board to direct the pilot and co-executive produce.
D'Elia, whose previous credits include TBS' hour-long effort Glory Daze, is repped by UTA, 3 Arts and Marcy Morris at Jackoway Tyerman.
