Will Smith Raps 'Fresh Prince' Theme on BBC One (Video)
The "Men in Black III" star said the 1990s television series remains what he is "most known for" around the world.
Though Will Smith was in Europe to promote Men in Black III, he took time to revisit another 90s phenomenon. The actor and musician performed the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air during an interview, which aired Friday on BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show.
“That is the thing I am most known for, no matter how big the movies get,” Smith said of the NBC show, which aired for six seasons from 1990 to 1996.
He also revealed that his Fresh Prince costar Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton, encouraged Smith to name his character after himself, because people would be calling him that for the rest of his life.
“He was so right,” Smith said. “When we go out together, people are like ‘Will! Will! Carlton!’”
Singing the Fresh Prince theme is just one of several big impressions Smith has made during the European leg of the Men in Black III promotional tour. Video of him slapping a journalist who tried to kiss him at the film’s Moscow premiere has gone viral, and his appearance on French television reacting to a proposed 75% tax rate was picked up by Fox News' The O’Reilly Factor.
