'12 Years a Slave' Leads London Critics' Circle Film Awards Nominations

The Steve McQueen-directed drama received nine nods, with "Philomena" getting five.

LONDON – Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave leads the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards nominations with nine nods.

McQueen's no-holds-barred drama is nominated for film, director and screenwriter of the year, while Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o all received acting nominations.

The film's U.K. rollout begins January 10 via Entertainment One.

Stephen FrearsPhilomena is the next most nominated title with five nods, including film of the year and a nomination for star Judi Dench for best actress.

Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, Jon S. Baird’s Filth, Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street also appear across multiple categories.

The awards will be handed out Feb. 2.
