1.4 mil viewers find 'Lost' on Sky One

LONDON -- Series 3 of the island drama "Lost" debuted with 1.4 million viewers on Sky One, garnering the network's second-highest audience this year, after the 2 million viewers who watched the Ricky Gervaise episode of "The Simpsons" and beating launch audiences for "Nip/Tuck" and "24" on the digital channel.

Airing episodes one and two from 10 p.m. to midnight, the audience held through the break, with the second episode winning 1.2 million viewers.

The move would appear to vindicate Sky's decision to poach the show from Channel 4, playing over £1 million ($1.9 million) per episode for the show in a deal for series three and four that was valued in excess of $80 million ($151.7 million). Sky One has run a heavy marketing campaign to promote its ownership of the show, which Channel 4 had said was losing audiences.
