$200 mil deal buys more NHL in Canada
Extends TV rights deal through 2013-14 season
TORONTO -- The NHL extended its Canadian TV rights deal with Canadian cable channel the Sports Network on Tuesday for another six years, through the 2013-14 season.
Beginning next season, TSN will annually air 70 regular season games featuring Canadian NHL teams, and share coverage of the first three rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
The deal for TSN, a division of CTVglobemedia, also includes broadband, wireless and VOD rights.
Terms of the six-year deal were not disclosed, but it is reportedly worth about $200 million.
On the conventional TV side, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. last year reupped its NHL rights deal for another six years in a pact that included "Hockey Night in Canada" broadcasts on Saturday nights and exclusive rights to the Stanley Cup Finals.
