20th Century Fox, HP Team for 'Avatar' Digital Experience
20th Century Fox chief information officer John Herbert teased that it "will transform the way we bridge between the physical and digital world."
Fans of Avatar will soon be able to explore the fictional world of Pandora in a whole new way.
Lightstorm Entertainment, the production company of Avatar director James Cameron, 20th Century Fox and computing giant HP have partnered to create a digital experience that will support Avatar's three upcoming sequels. The five-year deal will see HP provide key technology services.
"With Avatar, we created a world that people want to immerse themselves in," said Avatar producer and Lightstorm COO Jon Landau. "A powerful — and crucial — way for us to provide fans the ability to continue to do that is through an immersive digital experience. Through our partnership with HP, we will create an entirely new paradigm for how you expand and grow a story world. This digital experience will connect all aspects of the Avatar franchise to make it easy for our fans around the globe to really engage with our world and its themes and, if they want, become part of the story."
Those involved are staying mum on exactly what this experience will entail, but 20th Century Fox chief information officer John Herbert teased that it "will transform the way we bridge between the physical and digital world."
The original Avatar hit theaters in 2009 and made $2.8 billion at the global box office. Cameron and Landau are planning for three sequels that are set to come out in 2017, 2018 and 2019 if all goes according to plan.
