LONDON -- Continuing to break records on this side of the Atlantic, Disney Channel said Monday that "High School Musical" has reached more than 25 million unique viewers in Europe, its most successful continental debut to date.

The song and dance tale of teenage cliques and peer pressure had ranked No. 1 in its timeslot on kids channels across most European territories since rolling out across regional Disney Channel feeds.

It has aired to 21 million Disney Channel European homes and is expected to expand its reach to more than 100 million homes when it begins to roll out on free TV across the continent.

The movie soundtrack has reached platinum status in the U.K. and gold in France and Italy, while the Web site has attracted 1.6 million users and CD sales have topped 500,000.

" 'High School Musical' has certainly hit a high note in Europe," said John Hardie, executive vp and managing director of Disney Channels, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa0.

"We are thrilled that kids, tweens and families are still connecting with the movie on TV and online which is undoubtedly fuelling the retails sales of the sound track," Hardie said.
