'40-Year-Old Virgin' Actor Gets Life Sentence for Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend
Shelley Malil receives the maximum after telling court he doesn't "have the words to express my remorse."
40-Year-Old Virgin actor Shelley Malil was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for stabbing his ex-girlfriend more than 20 times, NBC San Diego reported.
Judge Harry Elias on Thursday gave the actor the maximum sentence, three months after a jury in San Diego County Superior Court in Vista, Calif., convicted him of premeditated attempted murder after repeatedly stabbing Kendra Beebe in 2008. He also was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence as well as assault on David Maldonado, who was with Beebe at her home.
"I am at a loss for words right now," Malil told the court before hearing the sentence. "I failed miserably, not only as a human being but as a father, son, uncle, brother, friend. What I did to Kendra, I don't have the words to express my remorse."
In September, Malil testified under oath that he stabbed Kendra Beebe repeatedly, but he didn't know it was her.
Malil -- who played Haziz, a co-worker of Steve Carell's character, in Virgin -- could be eligible for parole in nine or 10 years.
