A doctor, a cop and a mom for ABC pilots
EmptySarah Paulson has been tapped as the female lead in ABC's one-hour pilot "Cupid," Jeremy Renner will play the lead on ABC's one-hour pilot "The Unusuals," while Sharon Lawrence has joined another ABC drama pilot, "The Prince of Motor City."
The ABC Studios-produced "Cupid" is an updated version of Rob Thomas' 1990s comedy for ABC. It centers on the manic Trevor Hale (Bobby Cannavale), who thinks he is the Roman god of love, Cupid.
Paulson will play Claire Allen, a psychiatrist specializing in affairs of the heart. Paula Marshall played the role in the original.
On the feature side, Paulson next appears opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson in "The Spirit." She is repped by ICM and manager Judy Hofflund.
"Unusuals," from Sony, is a dramedy set at a New York police precinct. Renner ("28 Weeks Later") will play Det. Joe Walsh, who sets out to solve the murder of his ex-partner with the help of his partner (Amber Tamblyn).
Also cast in the pilot are Terry Kinney ("Canterbury's Law") as Sgt. Harvey Brown, who is married but flirts around, and Kai Lennox ("Helter Skelter") set as Detective Ed Alvarez, a well-put-together but not supersmart detective. Kinney is repped by ICM and manager Emily Saines.
"Motor City," from ABC Studios, is a gothic family soap inspired by "Hamlet" that centers on Billy (Warren Christie), a young Harvard philosophy professor forced to return to Detroit to take over the family's auto company and reconnect with his ex-girlfriend, Meg (Piper Perabo).
Lawrence will play Dorothy, Meg's mother. Lawrence, who recently appeared in the Lifetime miniseries "The Capture of the Green River Killer," is repped by APA.(partialdiff)
