ABC marketing co-chief steps down

Michael Benson served with Maria Provencio since mid-2009

ABC Entertainment Group marketing co-chief Michael Benson is stepping down, a spokeswoman confirmed Friday.

He and Marla Provencio served as co-executive vps, marketing of the ABC Entertainment Group since June 2009. Provencio is staying in place as new ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee starts to shape his team. ABC Entertainment Group's marketing efforts are expected to take a somewhat different direction now, even though it wasn't immediately clear what would change.

The marketing executive vp post reports to Lee and oversees all marketing activities for ABC's primetime and late-night lineup, while also establishing the on-air tone and brand for ABC Entertainment.

Provencio and Benson were responsible for the launches of such shows as "Modern Family," "Desperate Housewives," "Lost," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Dancing With the Stars." They also created Hispanic-targeted campaigns for "Housewives" and "Ugly Betty."
