The Gerard Depardieu-starrer about the DSK affair will get a closing-night send-off at the Canadian genre festival.

TORONTO — Abel Ferrara's ripped-from-the-headlines drama Welcome to New York has been tapped as the closing-night film for the Fantasia International Film Festival.

Ferrara's somewhat comic take on the scandal surrounding ex-IMF boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn being arrested for assaulting a New York hotel maid, Nafissatou Diallo, and sparking a court case and media storm, will close out the Canadian genre film festival on August 5.

Ferrara will be on hand for the screening of Welcome to New York, which stars Gerard Depardieu and Jacqueline Bisset. The film had earlier screenings in Cannes, out of the official selection, and in Edinburgh.

Fantasia also is giving an international premiere to Japanese director/co-writer Masayuki Ochiai's Ju-On: The Beginning of the End and a lifetime achievement award to Tobe Hooper, the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist.

The Montreal festival also booked world premieres for Andres Torres' Bag Boy Lover Boy, Matt O'Mahoney's Bloody Knuckles and Bennett Jones' I Am a Knife With Legs.

The Fantasia International Film Festival is set to run from July 17 to August 5, and will make additional lineup announcements in the coming weeks.
