Transaction gives Acorn permanent ownership and control of all rights including broadcast and digital distribution.
Acorn Media Group has acquired rights to the World War II British detective series Foyle's War from U.K. production indie Greenlit Rights.
Acorn has held the DVD rights to Foyle's War for several years, but the transaction gives Acorn permanent ownership and control of all rights including broadcast and digital distribution. The deal marks the first time Acorn has acquired ownership rights to one of its British series.
"We see this acquisition as a key step forward in the company's vision of becoming a comprehensive media company for discerning audiences," Acorn Media chief Miguel Penella said. "Foyle's War has been one of our top-selling franchises on DVD for many years, and we look forward to its strong future as we continue that DVD distribution and expand it across other platforms."
Starring Michael Kitchen, the series has aired on PBS' Mystery! since 2003.
In related moves, Acorn acquired other Greenlit programs including the comedy series Vexed, Honest andThe Man Who Lost His Head, as well the drama Menace and as the psychological thriller The Swap.
Headquartered in Silver Spring, Md., Acorn has divisions based in the U.K. and Australia.
