AFI Fest Adds 'Life of Pi,' 'Silver Linings Playbook,' 'On the Road' to Lineup
Jacques Audiard’s "Rust and Bone" will also screen with a special tribute to actress Marion Cotillard.
Several of this season’s awards hopefuls will screen at the AFI Fest in November, including Ang Lee’s 3D epic Life of Pi and David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook.
The American Film Institute has announced the Centerpiece Galas and Special Screenings for its annual festival, which will take place from Nov. 1 through 8 in Hollywood, Calif.
The Centerpiece Galas are Life of Pi, Walter Salles’ On the Road, Peter Ramsey’s Rise of the Guardians and Rust and Bone (De Rouille et D’os). The screening of Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone, which had its world premiere at Cannes, will feature a special tribute to French actress Marion Cotillard.
AFI Fest’s Special Screenings are Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, Sally Potter’s Ginger and Rosa, Léos Carax’s Holy Motors, Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible and Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut The Quartet.
Documentaries included in the Special Screenings Lineup are Room 237, Amy Berg’s West of Memphis and Ken Burns’ The Central Park Five.
As previously announced, the world premiere of Sacha Gervais’ Hitchcock starring Anthony Hopkins is the opening night gala. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln will close the festival on Nov. 8, one day before it opens in select theaters.
The complete festival program will be announced Monday.
The annual film festival takes place at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Chinese 6 Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
For the fourth consecutive year, the AFI Fest offers free tickets to all screenings, but only the Star Patron Package and Marquee Patron Package will provide reserved seating for the galas.
