AFM 2006 gears up
A record 589 films will be represented at the 27th American Film Market, set to run Nov. 1-8 in Santa Monica. That marks a 10% increase over the 534 films at last year's market.
This year's lineup also includes 384 market premieres, another record. In addition, 54 of the films at the market will screen as official selections at the concurrent AFI Fest.
The AFM also will launch a new Web site, www.afmfilms.org, which will host the AFM Catalogue of Films as a year-round industry resource. The site will track projects from their early stages of development to finished films and will be searchable by genre, language, production and financing status while also offering information on co-production opportunities.
The AFM also is working with Google Video to host trailers so that exhibitors can upload and manage an unlimited number of trailers that Google Video syndicates to the AFM site.
"Over the past three years, the number of films screening at the AFM has increased 50%, and the market will continue to grow to meet the needs of the expanding global independent film industry," said Jonathan Wolf, executive vp at Independent Film & Television Alliance and AFM managing director.
As previously announced, the AFM has increased office space for the third consecutive year at the Le Merigot Hotel, located next to the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, in order to meet the needs of its new and returning exhibitors.
