AFM 2011: IM Global Announces British '80s Music pic 'Walking on Sunshine'
Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini, the filmmakers behind indie hit "StreetDance 3D," will direct the movie for Vertigo Films.
Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini--directors of British indie hit StreetDance 3D--are set to direct 3D musical Walking on Sunshine for the U.K.'s Vertigo Films. Stuart Ford's IM Global has boarded as international sales agent, and is launching the project at AFM.
Walking with Sunshine, set to pop hits from the 1980s, is about a mother and daugther unwittingly falling for the same gorgeous guy while on vacation in Spain. The producers plan a 2013 release, and have brought in John O'Connell as the musical choreographer. His credits include Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom, Enchanted and Shall We Dance.
StreetDance 3D, released in 2010, earned north of $17 million. Giwa and Pasquini have reteamed with Vertigo on a sequel, which is now in post-production. StreetDance 3D featured debut performances by Britain's Got Talent stars George Sampson, Diversity and Flawless, and was a production of Vertigo in association with BBC Films.
"With my the huge international success of the first StreetDance movie and the expecte even bigger success of the second, Max and Dania are currently two of the most commerical directors out of the U.K. and there is no one better placed to direct a big, commerical, fun-filled musical. We will have put every eighties song that everyone loves from the pop world into the script, hoping everyone wil be dancing in the aisles," producer Jim Richardson said.
Ford added: "It took us about 30 seconds to recongize the commercial potential of such a feel good-good project. I have every faith that Vertgo, Max and Dania re goign to knock this one out of the park."
