AFM: 'Some Kind of Monster' Director Boards Robby Naish Documentary
Joe Berlinger will team up with Naish to tell the story of the windsurfing champion.
Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger is attached to direct a film on surfing legend Robby Naish. Berlinger will team up with Naish – a 24-time world surfing champion – to tell his life story.
Red Bull Media House is producing the film and selling internationally. Berlinger received an Oscar nomination for Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory, the last film in his trilogy on the Robin Hood Hills murders, and directed the cross-over doc hit Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.
Naish is a living legend in the wind-surfing world. He won his first world championship at 13 and emerged as the first superstar of the sport. Red Bull said the documentary will focus on the shy star, who was thrust into the limelight with his sporting success. The film is targeting a 2017 release.
