AFM: Double Dutch Does Animated Picture Deal With Awesometown
The two companies plan to produce 2-3 animated features annually, starting with holiday title 'Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer'
Canadian production and sales group Double Dutch has inked a deal with Awesometown Entertainment to co-produce two to three animated features annually budgeted in the $10 million - $15 million range.
The first title under the agreement will be Awesometown's Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer, for which Double Dutch is handling worldwide rights and introducing to buyers at AFM.
Paul Griffin, lead animator on Happy Feet Two, will direct Elliot, with production set to begin in January.
The film is pitched as a Christmas underdog story. After veteran reindeer Blitzen announces he plans to retire on Dec. 21, Elliot, a miniature horse, has three days to fulfill his lifetime dream of earning a spot on Santa's sleigh. But first he has to qualify via the North Pole Try Outs.
