Lotus Entertainment will sell and finance the sci-fi thriller, set to start shooting next year.

With new footage from his big-budget video game adaptation Warcraft released earlier today, the wheels of British filmmaker Duncan Jones' next and long-awaited project have already started moving.

Mute, which Jones says he's been working on for 12 years, now has Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard lined up to star, with Stuart Fenegan producing under his and Jones' Liberty Film banner.

A sci-fi set in Berlin 40 years in the future, Mute centers on a mute bartender (played by Skarsgard) whose only reason for living suddenly disappears, leading to a search that takes him deep into the city's underbelly and to a pair of American surgeons, led by Rudd. Jones wrote the script with Mike Johnson.

"I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that we're finally going to shoot this utterly unique film," said Jones, who directed 2011's Source Code. "The fact that I get to make it with Alexander Skarsgard and Paul Rudd makes it all the more exciting! Mute is a film that will last. It is unlike any other science fiction being made today."

Lotus Entertainment is handling international sales and will be introducing the film to buyers at the American Film Market. CAA, which arranged for the financing, is handling the domestic sale. Production is scheduled to start in March 2016. Lotus’ Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel and Ara Keshishian will serve as executive producers.
