AFM: Tandem Communications Boards Donald Sutherland's 'Pirate's Passage'
Carrie-Anne Moss also will provide voice talent for the animated children's movie, which Sutherland wrote and produced.
SANTA MONICA – Tandem Communications has taken on world sales duty for the Canadian animated children's film Pirate's Passage, which Hunger Games star Donald Sutherland co-wrote, produced and will star in.
Based on the award-winning children's novel by William Gilkerson, Pirate's Passage is an adventure tale set in 1952 in a small seaside town in Nova Scotia, once a favored port for pirates. It follows a 12-year-old boy (Jim Hawkins) suffering from the death of his father and bullying at school whose life is transformed when he meets the mysterious Captain Johnson, who takes him on a literal journey into the past.
Sutherland will voice Captain Johnson, with The Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss taking the role of Kerstin Hawkins, Jim's hard-luck mother. Gage Munroe (Immortals) will voice Jim as part of an all-Canadian cast that includes Kim Coates, Megan Follows, Terry Haig, Paul Gross, Gordon Pinsent and Sutherland's son Rossif Sutherland.
Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore), who co-wrote and produced the film with Donald Sutherland, will direct. Pirates Passage has begun production in Ottawa, with Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden serving as executive producers.
The project has presold to CBC Television in Canada. Tandem, whose recent production credits include the Sutherland-starring procedural Crossing Lines, will handle world sales outside Canada.
