Akimbo gets Frank with Real power
EmptyMedia veteran Thomas Frank has been appointed president and CEO of Internet VOD service Akimbo, the company said.
Frank will replace Akimbo's longtime CEO Joshua Goldman, who will stay on as a board member and adviser.
Frank will bring his 20 years' of experience in the technology, marketing and media sectors to oversee the company's overall advertising models, content licensing and media distribution.
"I love building companies from their early stage, but now, four years later and as we're moving in the direction we pioneered, we needed an experienced skill-set in advertising, media delivery and content licensing," Goldman said. "No one had that skill-set better than Tom."
Frank was COO at Real Networks, where he was responsible for corporate strategy, advertising sales, media content programming and consumer subscriptions. Before that, he implemented business strategies, program development and key productions at Dick Clark Prods.
"Akimbo's content-delivery innovations make this company the most exciting professional opportunity I have come across since I helped to build out the video-streaming business as COO of Real Networks," Frank said.
Goldman is credited with making a name for Akimbo among the studios, content providers, consumer electronics companies and consumers.
While Akimbo provides on-demand programming to such companies as AT&T and Microsoft, the online movie service Movielink also has taken a stake in the company.
In February, Akimbo also partnered with independent production and distribution company Reveille to allow consumers to digitally download TV series.
