Golden Globes: Alejandro G. Inarritu Wins Best Director
The 73rd annual awards show, hosted by Ricky Gervais, took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday.
Alejandro G. Inarritu took home the Golden Globe for best director for The Revenant on Sunday night.
"Every film is so difficult to make. But I have to tell that in my experience, this has been the most difficult journey that I have embarked myself," the director said during his acceptance speech of making the wilderness-set film. He admitted that he and his crew "struggled for so many months in low temperatures and very difficult conditions" and said to the audience “we all in this room know very well that pain is temporary, but a film is forever. Right? So who cares?”
He then thanked his producers, crew and The Revenant's star, Leonardo DiCaprio, whom he called a "hero" and credited for "the best experience of my life."
The director beat out Todd Haynes (Carol), Tom McCarthy (Spotlight), George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Ridley Scott (The Martian) to win the award.
Ricky Gervais hosted the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards, which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Jan. 10.

But I have to tell that in my experience this has been the most difficult journey that I have embarked myself. But I was lucky to be saved and rescued by the incredible crew, cast, producers, that we struggled for so many months in low temperatures and very difficult conditions to make this film happen. But we all in this room know very well that pain is temporary, but a film is forever. Right? So who cares? I want to thank first the hero of this film which is Arnon Milchan, the financier and producer, who believed in this film, bravely didn't flinch one second when we struggled with tough decision to make. And Brad Weston and all the people at New Regency. To Jim Gianopulos, Stacey Snider and all the people at Fox who put the film out there in the world and audiences to be embracing this film so incredibly. I want to thank all the producers especially [list of names]. Mr Chivo Lubezki, the master of light, obviously. [list of names]. But most importantly the cast, and the hero, Leo. You are the guy, you make [audio cuts out] the best experience of my life. The best in the world.
