He went back to basics for his 10th anniversary.

For his 10th anniversary show at NYFW, Alexander Wang hired a couple of world-renowned beauty experts to handle the look. But, says legendary hairstylist Guido Palau — half the team — “he has a very strong idea anyway” of what he wanted. And like many others this season, that was "a raw beauty," adds famed makeup artist Diane Kendal. "Alexander just wanted the girls looking really like themselves, as though they’ve come from the street."

To accomplish that, just one skincare product was used — and zero cosmetics. "We were just keeping the girls really fresh and beautiful," says Kendal, who used only NARS Luminous Moisture Cream ($62) to prep models’ complexions before the show. The other step: Brushing up their eyebrows. One and done.

The show that drew Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Mary J. Blige, Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid also had a dearth of hair products. Palau’s look harnessed beaucoup Redken Wind Blown 05 to “emphasize the cut or texture — we didn’t do any blowouts or any curl.” They hardly even brushed the models’ hair, instead just spraying loads of the product in once they arrived for “volume and a lovely lived-in look,” says Palau.

Going back to the idea of street cred, Palau also added nuance by nicking the eyebrow of some of the male models using a razor blade. Basically the whole look references where Wang started 10 years ago. "That’s what he wanted," says Kendal. "To go back to where he started from. He wanted the girls looking very raw — his girl, basically."
