Cuaron is partnering with Participant Media for the untitled period drama that will begin shooting in Mexico this fall.

The film chronicles a year in the life of a middle-class family in Mexico City in the early 1970s.

The project will be produced by Cuaron, Gabriela Rodriguez and Nicolas Celis. Jeff Skoll, David Linde and Jonathan King of Participant Media will executive produce.

Cuaron described the project as "close to his heart," bringing him back to Mexico for the first time since his international breakthough, 2001's Y Tu Mama Tambien.

"Alfonso is a master storyteller who breaks cultural boundaries around the world by skillfully connecting audiences through the power of cinema," said Participant CEO Linde.
