Alice and Olivia's makeup look

Stila makeup artist Kaci Harabedian breaks it down.

This NYFW is full of no-makeup looks that are more about great skin than cosmetics. Which is all well and good — not to mention refreshing! — but sometimes it’s fun to have fun with beauty. And the desert goddess–inspired gold-crusted eye makeup at Alice and Olivia by Stacey Bendet on Tuesday was just that.

Though “the skin is number one — it’s really glowy and illuminated" according to Stila makeup artist Kaci Harabedian, who prepped skin with Skin Inc. products featuring hyaluronic acid, “the eye is the big thing. [Stila global director of creative artistry] Sarah Lucero was inspired by that jeweled, crusted effect.” The key products: Stila Mag Metals in Comex Gold and Gilded Gold ($32), which the artists blended with primer serum for a “to create this really jewel-like wet, glossy effect to the eye,” she said. After painting that potion on, she used more of the Gilded Gold, dry, on top for a chunky effect.

Brushed up brows, a tight stripe of coffee-hued liner, lots of Stila Huge Mascara ($23) and some individual Ardell lashes finished off the eye that Harabedian says is actually very translatable to real life — and the crimson carpet. “I do this on red carpet clients all the time,” says the makeup artist who’s worked with Mariska Hargitay, Perrey Reeves and Shay Mitchell. “You’re going to see a lot of gold at the awards shows coming up — a lot!”
