Rhys Ifans became involved with security at the San Diego Convention on Friday.
British actor Rhys Ifans was briefly detained and cited by Comic-Con officials on Friday after an incident following the Amazing Spider-Man panel at Comic-Con.
The nature of the incident involving Ifans, who plays the villain in the Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man reboot, was not immediately clear. However, Columbia issued a statement Saturday acknowledging the situation.
"Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the Amazing Spider-Man panel," said Steve Elzer, Senior vice president of media relations. "Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets the incident."
Ifans can currently be seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in the role of Xenophilius Lovegood. His previous credits include Pirate Radio, Vanity Fair and and Notting Hill.
