The studio also revealed more details about the pilot order for "X-Files" creator Chris Carter's apocalyptic drama, "The After."

Amazon has given a pilot order to an adaptation of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch book series that will be written by Eric Overmyer along with Connelly, the company said Thursday.

Bosch, which centers on an LAPD homicide detective, is set to be produced as an hourlong drama. The detective will be played by Titus Welliver (Argo) with Jim McKay directing. Fabrik Entertainment's Henrik Bastin is set to produce.

"Sharing this story with television audiences is very exciting, something that’s been 20 years in the making," said Connelly in a statement. "It is amazing to have it come together with the synergy of Amazon -- the world's largest bookstore -- along with accomplished creator and showrunner, Eric Overmyer, and Fabrik, a production company dedicated to loyalty to the books. Harry Bosch can be in no better hands."

Additionally, Amazon also revealed more details about the order for X-Files creator Chris Carter's apocalyptic drama, The After, which was picked up as a pilot in August.

The cast includes Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Adrian Pasdar and Louise Monot. Georgeville Television's Marc Rosen will executive produce and Gabe Rotter will produce.

The addition of the two dramas arrives on the heels of Amazon's announcement earlier this month of three comedy pilotsMozart in the Jungle, The Outlaws and Transparent that were picked up.

Like Netflix, the company has continued to ramp up its investment in original, high-profile content. In May, Amazon Studios ordered the John Goodman political comedy Alpha House and Ed Begley Jr.'s Sillicon Valley comedy Betas to series.
