AMC Adds Ten More Imax Theaters In U.S.
The latest theaters will be built by AMC through a joint venture deal with Imax.
TORONTO -- Continued house-cleaning at Imax Corp., with the giant screen exhibitor on Friday announcing partner AMC Entertainment will install another 10 joint venture theaters in the U.S. as part of a June 2010 agreement.
The additional theaters will take AMC to 135 Imax locations.
The AMC news comes a day after Imax confirmed nine more joint venture theaters for Regal Entertainment Group as it similarly exercised an option from an earlier October 2010 deal.
For its part, AMC’s additional 10 screens will fulfill the rollout of theaters under the June 2010 expansion of the exhibitors' original 2007 joint revenue sharing agreement with Imax.
The 10 AMC screens are expected to open by the end of 2012.
AMC currently has 105 Imax theaters in operation.
