The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected 33 students from 16 colleges and universities as finalists for the 34th annual Student Academy Awards competition, which takes place June 9 at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Students who participated in one of three regional competitions will present their films in four categories — alternative, animation, documentary and narrative — and have the chance to win a cash prize of $5,000, $3,000 or $2,000.

Finalists include 2005 silver medal winners Erin Hudson and Ben Wu from Stanford for their documentary "Unhitched." Hudson also was a finalist in 2006 for her documentary "Afloat."
