Amy Pascal is stepping down from her role as co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, following a rough patch centered on the Sony hack. And, as any studio head typically does, she leaves behind a mixed track record.
Pascal was known for box-office breakouts (the Spider-Man franchise, The Da Vinci Code) and esteemed prestige films (Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle) alike, but her tenure was not without its share of flops. Here are five of her biggest successes, along with five low points.
The Social Network (2010)
The film about Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg made $224 million, won three Oscars and led to starring film roles for several members of its ensemble cast, including Andrew Garfield, Rooney Mara and Justin Timberlake.
Pascal oversaw the Daniel Craig-fronted Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace as well, but it was Skyfall that became the first James Bond film to collect more than $1 billion worldwide.
Captain Phillips (2013)
The real-life story of a captain (Tom Hanks) taken hostage by pirates was both a critical (six Oscar noms) and commercial ($218 million gross) win.
The studio turned a book about statistics into a Brad Pitt hit that grossed $110 million and garnered six Oscar nominations, including best picture.
21 Jump Street (2012)
The action-comedy film starred Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum and collected $201 million, and the 2014 sequel did even better. What's more, critics loved it, as it holds an 85 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
After Earth (2013)
Pascal had success with Jaden Smith, namely with the 2010 reboot of The Karate Kid, but this sci-fi project wasn't so lucky.
White House Down (2013)
Perhaps Olympus Has Fallen was partly to blame for the Tatum-Jamie Foxx actioner's failure, having involved a similar storyline and beating it to theaters by several months.
The Tourist (2010)
Johnny Depp hasn't had many box-office bright spots lately, and this wan romantic thriller — also starring Angelina Jolie, the subject of numerous leaked Sony emails — was no exception.
Jack and Jill (2011)
Sony's Adam Sandler-starring That's My Boy (2012) made even less money than Jack and Jill, but it's likely that the cross-dressing comedy caused audiences to feel burned by the actor. Sandler's pals have also had a few airballs for Sony, including Kevin James (2011's Zookeeper).
How Do You Know (2010)
There was a time when James L. Brooks movies brought box-office success and Oscar validation alike (think Terms of Endearment and As Good as It Gets), but audiences and critics were not impressed by this Reese Witherspoon-Paul Rudd bomb, which grossed less than half of its whopping $120 million budget.
