Amy Poehler, Ike Barinholtz Teaming Up for Basketball Comedy
Poehler will play a once-promising basketball coach who is asked to lead an NBA team.
Amy Poehler is reteaming with Ike Barinholtz for an untitled basketball comedy just picked up by Universal.
Poehler will star and produce the comedy via her Paper Kite Productions banner. Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark are also producing.
Barinholtz, for his part, will pen the script with writing partner David Stassen.
Poehler will play a once-promising basketball coach who is asked to lead an NBA team under the gaze of a reluctant organization and the pressure of being "the first." Barinholtz will also take a role in film.
Paper Kite’s Brooke Posch, Barinholtz and Stassen will exec produce.
Poehler and Barinholtz first teamed up for Sisters, the upcoming Universal comedy in which Barinholtz plays the comedienne’s love interest. (The movie opens December 25.)
Poehler is coming off of Inside Out, Pixar’s acclaimed hit in which she voices the character Joy. This fall, she will shoot the New Line comedy The House opposite Will Ferrell. Her Paper Kites banner produces the Comedy Central hit Broad City and NBC’s Welcome to Sweden.
Barinholtz and Stassen wrote Central Intelligence, the action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart which is currently in production in Boston. The pair also write for The Mindy Project, in which Barinholtz also appears opposite star Mindy Kaling. (Production on the fourth season, which will now air on Hulu, begins later this year.)
Additionally, Barinholtz is due to reprise his role for Neighbors 2 this fall.
