Andy Lau's 'Firestorm' to Open ScreenSingapore
Hong Kong action thriller Firestorm will get its world premiere on Dec. 4 as the opening film at ScreenSingapore, the Southeast Asian city-state's annual cinema showcase and industry confab.
Firestorm stars Andy Lau as a hard-boiled police detective who is forced to cross moral lines in order to hunt down a crew of seasoned criminals. Rounding out the cast are Gordon Lam Ka Tung (Infernal Affairs), Hu Jun (Bodyguards & Assassins) and Yao Chen (Caught in the Web).
Produced by influential Hong Kong producer Bill Kong of Edko Films (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Lust, Caution) along with Lau himself, the film is the directorial debut of Alan Yuen, well known in the region as a screenwriter (New Police Story, Shaolin).
Lau and Lam will both walk the red carpet for the film's opening night premiere at ScreenSingapore on Dec. 4 at Resorts World Sentosa.
“Firestorm is one of the most anticipated Asian movies in recent years, and we are very happy that the producers and superstar Andy Lau have chosen Singapore to be the venue for the world premiere of this spectacular movie," said Lim Teck, managing director of Clover Films, one of the co-distributors of the movie in Singapore.
The third edition of ScreenSingapore runs Dec. 3-6. The event features international film premieres and shares a market with the more established Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) , which is entering its 14th year. The events also host a series of industry keynotes and panel discussions by international executives, producers, directors, sales agents and talent.
