Ann Coulter Compares Trayvon Martin Media Coverage to 'Lynch Mob,' KKK

Ann Coulter's disdain for the mainstream media reached new levels on Friday as she compared news coverage of the death and subsequent police investigation of Trayvon Martin's killer, George Zimmerman, to a lynch mob not seen since the Ku Klux Klan.

Appearing on fellow conservative Laura Ingraham's radio show, Coulter said, "I mean it is a lynch mob. This isn't how we try cases in this country. And you know, the last time you saw this sort of thing on a regular basis was of course again from the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party’s outgrowth, the KKK."

A few Democratic politicians have made statements about Martin's death, including President Obama and Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL), who wore a hoodie on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday; a number of Republicans, including presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have expressed sadness over the death, as well, though Santorum also blasted Obama's comments.

"So, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that we get this from the Democrats," Coulter continued. "They have never bought into the criminal justice system where you have, you know, grand jurors and a procedure where evidence is vetted, and police look at it and prosecutors and grand jurors."

Criticism of media coverage about the case has come frequently from the right, with Bill O'Reilly saying, "That's what's wrong with the media in this country; no longer the facts matter. Accusations are enough to condemn folks and press wants the story and doesn't care who gets hurt in the process. Allegations become front page news no matter how flimsy they are."

Rush Limbaugh has accused the media of playing up the racial aspect of the case and said that they drummed up "fake outrage" in this case, as they did during the heat of his Sandra Fluke controversy.

"The country is never as roiled and as agitated as the left is.  They can succeed in upsetting people.  But the object lesson here is to, from this point forward, just don't believe them," Limbaugh said earlier this week.
