'Anna Karenina': Keira Knightley Struggles With Love in New Trailer (Video)
Jude Law and Aaron Johnson also star in the adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's dramatic tale of aristocratic love, which hits theaters Nov. 9.
Based on the novel by Russian author Leo Tolstoy, director Joe Wright brings Tolstoy’s novel and Tom Stoppard’s screenplay to life in the film Anna Karenina. Starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Aaron Johnson, the film tells the story of aristocrat Anna Karenina (Knightley) in late-19th century Russia entering into an affair with Count Vronsky (Johnson) despite her marriage to Alexei Karenin (Law).
The trailer released this week shows some of the movie’s most dramatic moments.
From the beginning, it is clear the movie is about Anna Karenina’s struggle with love. “I was 18 when I got married,” she says. “Which is not love.”
“Romantic love will be the last delusion of the old order,” says another voice-over, before scenes of Anna setting eyes on the “rich, good-looking cavalry officer” that is Count Vronsky.
The pair dance, which seems to spark their affair.
Things turn sour, however, with Anna’s husband saying, “You may, by indiscretion, give the world occasion to talk about you.”

And talk they do. Her fellow aristocrats voice their disapproval, which causes more tension in the film.
To make matters worse, Vronsky and Karenin are seen sitting together before a shot of Anna holding her pregnant belly.
“You think I would let you have my son? You are depraved,” says Karenin before Anna is seen pulling a black veil over her face.
The movie hits theaters Nov. 9. Watch the trailer about the “woman without honor” above.
