More than 800 guests flocked to Santa Monica Airport’s Hangar 8 in support of founder Elyse Walker and her all-in-one philanthropic fashion show on Saturday night.
And the icing was host Anne Hathaway, who delivered remarks at the event. "I’m here in support of all those who have been touched by cancer, a number that is far too high," she said.
The actress went on to laud Dr. Beth Y. Karlan, a renowned leader in the diagnosis and treatment of women’s cancer, and a longtime friend of Walker's.
"She helped a beloved friend of mine battle cancer recently," said Hathaway, choking back tears. "You were more than just my friend’s doctor. You were a friend and an ally, and I’m happy to say that together you kicked that cancer’s ass."
A roar of applause segued into a few motivational words from Karlan, and the fashion show followed.
Hathaway joined attendees Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman, Chaz Dean, Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman, Brooke Burke Charvet and David Charvet, Jessica Capshaw, Maria Bello, and Poppy Delevingne, among others at the Pink Party.
In its ninth year, the extravaganza has now raised over $9 million, with proceeds benefiting the Women’s Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai’s Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute.
The runway showcased head-to-toe looks from designers Barbara Bui, Chloe, J. Mendel, KaufmanFranco, Matthew Williamson, Lanvin and Valentino. LORAC cosmetics provided makeup, and hair was done by Chaz Dean and his team of stylists.
Pink Party attendees framed the stage in lounge seating, while enjoying dinner, specialty cocktails and Fiji Water (the sponsor of the event) outfitted with custom pink straws.
Live auction items included pieces by Los Angeles-based artist Retna, two tickets to New York Fashion Week 2014, a 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet and a rental of an eight-bedroom home in Cabo San Lucas. The silent auction featured designer handbags and jewelry from premium labels such as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Celine and Givenchy.
The night ended as promised -- with a party. The DJ took the stage and so did Walker, inviting everyone on her team to join what she called “the celebration of life.”
Other guests included Aimee Garcia, Michael Chiklis, A.J. Cook, Paz Vega, Brenda Song, Francesca Eastwood, Frances Fisher, Johnny Hallyday and Laeticia Hallyday, and designers Ken Kaufman, Isaac Franco and Alejandro Ingelmo.
