AOL Docudrama 'Connected' Gets March Premiere (Exclusive)
'Connected,' from executive producer Morgan Spurlock, is the first longform series from AOL.
AOL has set the premiere date for its first longform series.
Connected, a half-hour docudrama produced by Morgan Spurlock that follows the interweaving lives of real New Yorkers, will launch March 31 on AolOriginals.com, with four episodes rolling out every two weeks.
The 20-episode series, an adaptation of an Israeli format, puts the filmmaking in the hands of six people who are given camcorders to document their lives over the course of six months.
Connected's stars include Susan Sarandon; her Spin ping-pong bar owner boyfriend Jonathan Bricklin; interior designer and architect photographer Nina Ferrer-Mannino and husband Stefano Mannino; comedian Derek Gaines, host of MTV's Broke A$$ Game Show; married tech executives Eli and Ido Bendet-Taicher; Lori Levine, founder of Flying Television Celebrity Marketing, and husband Jan van Arsdale; and TV host Rosie Noesi and boyfriend Joshua Baggett.
"Connected marks a new genre in the world of reality television, capturing authentic, real-life stories in a way that we’ve never seen before,” said Dermot McCormack, president of AOL Video and AOL Studios.
Connected is executive produced by McCormack, Warrior Poets' Spurlock and Jeremy Chilnick and Koda Communications' Ram Landes and Ami Teer.
"This series pulls back the curtain on the world of over-produced, fabricated reality TV, and what emerges is raw emotion and real storytelling," said Spurlock, founder and president of Warrior Poets. "The characters are truly brave and aspirational in what they share with the world."
Sprint is the exclusive premiere sponsor of Connected, which was part of the slate of programming presented at last spring's NewFronts in New York.
Spurlock and McCormack will speak more in depth about the series on a panel about hyper-reality TV at SXSW in March.
